Accessibility
  |
|
For your convenience, the Visitor & Administration Center is wheelchair accessible. Administrative offices, located on the second floor of the building, are accessible via public elevators located behind the reception desk on the main floor. QBG's flat topography makes it an excellent destination for visitors with ambulatory disabilities. QBG has a long history of responding to the needs of those with impaired vision and learning and ambulatory disabilities. The Garden’s education brochure specifies programs that address these needs. In cooperation with the Lexington School for the Deaf, the Garden has a long provided training and service opportunities to hearing-impaired students. In addition, with the support of the Walter Kaner Foundation, QBG provides classes for special-needs children, many of whom are in wheelchairs. The Garden publicizes these services through its publications, Web site, and regular communication with teachers and social service agencies. The Garden recently installed a new wayfinding system designed to maximize accessibility and its Sustainable Landscapes and Buildings Project has made accessibility a top priority. As a result, the Garden’s new entry plaza is designed for easy wheelchair navigation and its new two-story Visitor & Administration Building has two ramps and an elevator for ADA compliance. The Garden Entrances project is in the design stage, and includes the renovation of the Garden’s College Point Blvd. entrance, integrating the needs of visitors with disabilities.
