NYC Compost Project in Queens: I ♥ Worms: Heart-Shaped Compost Cookies
Sunday, February 5, 11:30am to 1:30pm
Fee: $5 per person

Valentine’s Day is the time for love and heart-shaped everything: chocolate, stuffed toys, and…compost cookies! In this unique introduction to composting, you'll bring home heart-shaped compost cookies to give your plants.

Get step-by-step instructions on how to start and maintain an outdoor compost bin or indoor worm bin. Be prepared to get your hands dirty. Registration required. Email compost@queensbotanical.org or call 718-539-5296 to register.

NYC Compost Project in Queens: I ♥ Worms For Kids
Thursday, February 23, 10:30am to 11:30am
Fee: $5 per youth


Did you know that worms have five pairs of hearts? This unique hands-on workshop introduces kids (ages 5 and up, accompanied by an adult) to the life of indoor composting (red wiggler) worms! Featured activity includes making heart-shaped compost cookies for your plants. Be prepared to get your hands dirty! Registration required. Birds, Bugs, and Buds at Queens Botanical Garden

We've teamed up with the folks at Queens Mamas to offer great family fun this winter!

Join QBG Naturalists to connect with the environment around you, and help creatures in your community. Make pine cone bird feeders, do a fun insect activity and make seed bombs.  Ages 4 and up.

Susan's Fab 14th Birthday Bash!

Tickets: $30 per person

Join us at QBG as we celebrate Susan’s 14th Leap Year Birthday and help fulfill her “Wish List” for more Interns & Plants for the Garden. Tickets are $30 per person. Sponsorship opportunities are also available. Our goal is to raise $56,000 to support 7  seasonal interns, purchase more plants and support our volunteer groups. Nature Photography Workshops at Queens Botanical Garden
Two Workshops:
Wildlife Photography - Saturday, March 10 (rain date March 24), 1 to 3:30pm
Flower Photography - Saturday, March 17, 1 to 3:30pm
Fee: $10/one workshop; $15/both workshops

Learn how to take better nature photos with QBG as your backdrop.  Photographers Shari Romar and H. David Stein will offer a slide show of examples, and offer pointers on light, composition and working with wildlife or flower subjects.  Workshops include approximately 45 minutes of outdoor photography followed by a critique of participants’ work. Beginning photographers are welcome.

Participants are asked to bring their camera.

The Amazing World of Bamboo: Incorporating Bamboo into Your Landscape for Beauty, Food, and Products

Durable, abundant, and natural - bamboo is the most popular plant on the planet. Whether it's birds using it for their nests or builders seeking it out for green construction projects, the hardy plant proves one of the most versatile and enduring. Noted landscape architect and Farmingdale State College Ornamental Horticulture Chairperson Michael Veracka reveals just why bamboo is the plant of choice for so many around the world, where you can find it in many popular products on the shelves today, and how city dwellers in even the most urban environments can grow and incorporate bamboo in their homes.

Spring is a critical time for lawn care. Join QBG’s Patty Kleinberg, lawn care expert extraordinaire, for this important introduction to natural lawn care. Learn how to maintain a healthy lawn without the use of artificial fertilizers and pesticides. The last hour of the workshop is a hands-on demonstration. Registration required. The HSBC Children's Garden at Queens Botanical Garden offers hands-on discovery for ages 5-12.  Children's imaginations and knowledge blossom as they plant and harvest vegetables and flowers, visit the Bee Garden, and more!

March 31 - June 16 (no class May 26 for Memorial Day weekend)

Arbor Festival
