Solar Baking

The children's gardeners learned about solar energy while baking yummy Zucchini drop cookies:

Step 1: Pour two cups of flour (we used whole wheat)

Step 2: Pour one cup of sugar

Step 3: Add 1/2 cup of melted butter

Step 4: Add one tsp of baking soda

Step 5: Add one tsp of cinnamon

Step 6: Add 1/2 tsp of salt

Step 7: Lots of grated Zucchini

Step 8: Pour in lots of chocolate chips

Step 9: Now stir until you have a smooth dough

Step 10: Make a solar oven. You can make it out of an old pizza box. Make sure you cover the entire thing with foil. cover the front with cling film, to capture the heat and keep insects away. If you don't have a cookie sheet, you can make one out of a pizzabox. Cover with foil. Make a slit in the back for easy cookie access.

Step 11: Cover sheet with flour.

Step 12: Place cookies on carboard or cookie sheet covered with foil.

Step 13: Make sure the cookies are flat

Step 14: Place cookies in solar oven

Step 15: Close solar oven.

Step 16: Bring cookies outdoors for baking.  Make sure cookies are placed in full sunlight.

The cookies usually cook 3 to 5 hours depending on size of cookies and amount of sunlight.
