Video Teleconferencing
Too far away to visit Queens Botanical Garden?
Schools and libraries unable to come to the Garden can enjoy several selected programs if they have compatible video teleconferencing (VTC) equipment. VTC programs are interactive and provide a meaningful experience for students without their actually being on site. Some of our regulars are schools and libraries from as far away as Michigan and Ohio!
To ensure the fullest experience, we encourage thorough pre-broadcast planning. QBG will provide a selection of materials to guide hands-on activities in the classroom.

The following are available as VTC programs:
Plants We Eat! Do you eat your fruits and vegetables? Explore plant parts, identify their functions, and discover which of these parts we eat. Includes a seed planting to take home and an optional “root vue” kit for the classroom.
Trees and Me Trees provide us with wood, food, and paper and help our environment in many ways. Explore the life cycle of trees and what they need to grow while determining the role trees play in our daily lives. Plant a tree seed to take home and watch grow.
Plants and Animals Plants and animals need each other in many ways. Investigate the food chain and food web and the ways that living things rely on each other in order to survive in the garden community. Includes a seed planting to take home.
Good Guys and Bad Guys Are all bugs insects? What makes an insect an insect? Discuss the interdependency of insects and plants, explore how their characteristics enable them to survive, and discover garden critters that are beneficial and harmful to our garden community. Includes a hands-on activity.
Honeybees Explore the life cycle of honeybees while discovering how they help flowers in our garden grow. Visit QBG’s Bee Garden and working hives, and taste honey.
Dr. George Washington Carver Called the “Wizard of Tuskegee,” Dr. George Washington Carver made significant contributions to the field of botany. Learn how plants played a very important role in his early life and in his later achievements. Plant a peanut to take home and watch grow.
Jungle Journey–Rainforest Why do we need the rainforest? What does it do for the Earth? Learn the answers to these and other important questions. See live plants that show adaptations to this unique habitat.
Weird World of Plant Adaptations Discover how plants have changed to live in different environments. See leaf, stem, root, and flower adaptations of live plants from the jungle, desert, and other habitats. |
