Position Announcement

The Queens Botanical Garden (QBG) is a private non-profit cultural institution located on 39 acres of New York City public land in Queens, New York, one of the most ethnically diverse counties in the nation. A visitor survey revealed that over 75% of the Garden’s 300,000 annual visitors speak a language other than English at home. QBG is nearing completion of a major capital project that includes a green Visitor/Administration Building and associated landscapes and is a High Performance Building demonstration project for New York City. The project is designed to achieve the highest (platinum) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED™) rating. The LEED™ rating system, developed by the United States Green Building Council, is a nationally recognized standard for sustainability that guides every aspect of planning, design, construction and operations.

initiatives and programs that demonstrate environmental stewardship, promote
sustainability and celebrate
the rich cultural connections between people and plants.

General Statement of Duties and Responsibilities
Under supervision, attends, cleans, guards, and patrols the botanical garden. The Guard is responsible for the protection of the buildings, equipment, and collections, as well as providing basic wayfinding information to the visiting public. He/She is required to take appropriate action, notify supervisors, call police, fire department or ambulance and make appropriate reports in consultation with supervisor. The Guard will perform work of ordinary difficulty in cleaning public buildings and grounds and performs related duties, including snow removal when necessary. This is a part-time position with weekend and/or evening/night work required. Schedule varies.

Position Requirements:

  • NYS Security Guard Certification
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License
  • Ability to work flexible schedule, including evenings

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bilingual/Multilingual preferred
