Flushing, NY - September 27, 2013 – Friends, relatives, past and present Queens Botanical Garden staff and elected officials celebrated Mrs. Shirley Kushner and her fifty years of dedicated service to Queens Botanical Garden at a luncheon on Thursday, September 26 at QBG. In her half century as a loyal QBG employee, Mrs. Kushner has seen the Garden evolve and blossom and has played a vital role in its growth and development.
Guests dined and socialized while celebrating the occasion, and the speeches were both heartfelt and humorous. Elected officials brought Proclamations and Citations to honor Mrs. Kushner and her remarkable record of service. State Assemblymember Nily Rozic thanked Mrs. Kushner on behalf of the community for her extraordinary service. City Councilmember Peter Koo, in his tribute to Mrs. Kushner, remarked that she is a role model for everyone in that she understands that “when you enjoy working - it’s not working!” Frank Mirovsky, QBG’s Chairman, said that “QBG is a special place, made special by the special people here who bring their passion, talents and love. Without question, Shirley is one of the most beautiful flowers of our Garden.”
Mrs. Kushner has no plans to retire, and the Garden hopes to enjoy having her on staff for many years to come.
