Flushing, NY – July 24, 2013—Queens Botanical Garden announces the latest in our “Music In the Garden” concert series.  On August 10, 2013, we are proud to host the acclaimed fiddle virtuoso Tony DeMarco, along with bouzouki player Eamon O’Leary and Irish step dancer Siobhán Butler in a special performance on our outdoor stage.  Join us on the lawn from 6:15-7:45 pm.  Bring a blanket and pack a picnic snack to enjoy on the Oak Allée during the performance.

Born in Brooklyn to an Irish-Italian family of musicians, Tony DeMarco is a master of American folk music as well as Irish/Celtic styles of fiddling.  He is a well-known proponent of the sophisticated Sligo style of fiddling, a technically challenging technique that involves ornamentation with both the right and left hands.   Mr. DeMarco’s mastery of this technique is showcased on his Smithsonian Folkways recording, “The Sligo Indians”, and has earned him a successful performing career spanning more than three decades.  He has performed widely in the US and abroad and is a well-known and respected pillar of the New York music scene.

Mr. DeMarco will be accompanied by Eamon O’Leary on vocals and bouzouki, an ancient stringed instrument with roots in the Mediterranean and adapted for Celtic music.  Mr. O’Leary’s skills on guitar and bouzouki have been widely hailed by critics as well as the general public.  As a special extra, there will also be an appearance by Siobhán Butler, an accomplished percussive dancer who has performed internationally with the likes of Celtic Crossroads and Cherish the Ladies, and at the Grand Ole Opry.

Astoria Federal Savings is the lead sponsor of the Music In the Garden series, with additional support from Green Mountain Energy.

Admission to the concert is included in the entry fee to the Garden ($4 adults, $3 seniors, $2 for students and children 3-12, and free for QBG members.  Inquiries may be directed to (718) 886-3800, ext. 330 or
