Flushing, NY- June 17, 2013—Queens Botanical Garden announces the beginning of a new season of Farmers Market Fridays.  Every Friday from June 21 to November 22, from 8:30am to 4pm, local residents will be able to buy fresh, local and seasonal produce, grown and sold by New York State farmers.  The Farmers Market will be set up on Dahlia Avenue, directly off Main Street, outside the Garden fence.

All over the world, farmers markets are one of the oldest forms of direct marketing by small farmers.   These markets promote regional agriculture by providing small family farms the opportunity to sell their locally grown products directly to consumers, and to ensure that consumers have access to the freshest, most nutritious locally grown food the region has to offer.

Each week, farmers bring an ample and changing array of their freshly picked fruit, vegetables, herbs and more to the QBG Market, and many people look forward to their weekly visit.   Shopping at the farmers market is a great way to meet local farmers and get the freshest and most flavorful produce.  Good relationships between farmers and city residents help to support regional agriculture and can revitalize rural communities as well as underutilized urban spaces.

The Farmers Market at Queens Botanical Garden is one of more than 20 markets operated by Down To Earth Markets.  A member of the Farmers Market Federation of New York, Down To Earth Markets has sites in four of the five boroughs, Westchester and Rockland County.
