Flushing, NY – May 8, 2013—Queens Botanical Garden announces the beginning of the new season of “Music in the Garden”.  On June 16, 2013, we are proud to host the Quintet of the Americas, an internationally acclaimed woodwind ensemble.  They will perform a special Father’s Day concert in the auditorium of the Visitors & Administration Building, from 2 to 3:30 pm.

The Quintet, whose five members are all based in Queens, have a long history of bringing musical excellence to concert venues throughout our area.  Since Queens has been known for the richness of our cultural diversity as well as a long musical history featuring many great artists, this concert will be featuring the music of Queens composers.  This includes works by living composers Beata Moon, James Cohn, Dylan Glatthorn and Christopher Caliendo, as well as musical legends associated with Queens such as Louis Armstrong, John Williams and Scott Joplin.

Astoria Federal Savings is the lead sponsor of the Music in the Garden series.  This program is made possible with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, in partnership with the City Council. Additional funding comes from Bloomberg Philanthropies, The Jarvis and Constance Doctorow Family Foundation, the New Music USA's Cary New Music Performance Fund and the Aaron Copland Fund for Music.   It is also presented in collaboration with the Latin American Cultural Center of Queens.

Admission is included in the entry fee to the Garden ($4 adults, $3 seniors, $2 students and children 3-12, and free for QBG Members).  Seating is limited – first come first served.  Inquiries may be directed to (718) 886-3800, ext. 330 or dhector@queensbotanical.org
