Queens Botanical Garden is Recruiting Local Gardeners to Participate in the Second Season of the Intergenerational Garden.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Maureen Regan – Queens Botanical Garden
Flushing, NY – February 14, 2013— Queens Botanical Garden announces the opening of the second season of its Intergenerational Garden. We invite all local gardening enthusiasts to join and cultivate their own plots. All interested applicants are invited to an Open House at Queens Botanical Garden on Saturday March 2, 2013 from 10 am to 12 pm. At this event, gardeners will learn more about the program, walk through the facility and will meet IG Coordinator Maureen Regan along with other IG gardeners.
Plots are ideally suited to motivated gardeners and will require modest fees for supplies and maintenance. For experienced gardeners like local resident Delana Kaalund, it has provided a rare opportunity to grow fresh vegetables in an urban environment. “It’s calming, almost like meditation,” says Ms. Kaalund, now one of the garden’s superintendents. “It’s nice to watch the plants come up and to harvest organic vegetables.”
The IG Garden is open to residents of all ages and will be available Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 9am to 12noon, throughout the spring, summer and fall months.
