Queens Botanical Garden Hosts Second Annual WINTER SOLSTICE CELEBRATION!

Flushing, NY – November 20, 2012— On Sunday, December 16 Queens Botanical Garden invites all to join us as we ring in the Holiday Season with a family-friendly event to celebrate the Winter Solstice! 

Come and enjoy musical performances, crafts for all ages, seasonal refreshments, Garden tour and Bird Walk, storytelling and special sales by the QBG store and local crafts vendors.  

Admission to this event is FREE- note that the Garden does not charge admission November 1-March31.

Winter Solstice Schedule of Events:

11am to 4:30pm (all day) children’s crafts, vendors, seasonal refreshments & QBG store sale on selected merchandise.

11am to 11:45am: Garden Tour and Bird Walk led by QBG staffer Shari Romar.

12:30pm to 2pm: Festival Brass, accomplished members of the Brass Studies Program under Professor David Jolley from the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College.  They will perform classics of the standard repertoire as well as joyous holiday carols.

2pm to 2:45pm: Native American Winter Tales by Storyteller Bobby Gonzalez.  American Indian traditional tales provide both entertainment on long, dark winter nights as well as information about ecology and the need for respect among all living things.  www.bobbygonzalez.com

3pm to 4:30pm: Winter Wonderland Concert featuring members of the Classical Singers Career Development Club.  The classical singers are student emissaries for the voice department at the Aaron Copland School of Music and their faculty advisor is Professor James John.    Don’t miss this wonderful holiday choral treat!

Musical performances are in association with the Kupferberg Center for the Arts at Queens College.

Queens Botanical Garden is located at 43-50 Main Street in Flushing, Queens.   On-site parking is available for $5 per car; street parking is nearby.  QBG is accessible via the Q44 and Q22 buses and the 7 train (Main Street/Flushing stop).
