Queens Botanical Garden - Where people, plants, and cultures meet

Queens Botanical Garden Proudly Participates in Flushing’s 8th Annual Moon Festival Saturday, September 13, 2008

Flushing, NY - The 8th-annual Moon Festival, organized by the Flushing Development Center, will take place on Saturday, September 13, 2008, with activities planned for September 12 and 14. The festival's roots stem from the traditional Chinese Harvest Moon celebration, which falls on the eighth month and 15th day of the lunar calendar. This year's harvest moon is on September 14. Queens Botanical Garden is proud to once again participate in this unique community event.

“It’s only fitting that QBG play a large part in this event since the Moon Festival celebrates the abundance of the summer harvest,” said QBG Executive Director Susan Lacerte. “QBG has enjoyed an outstanding year, with the addition of our new Visitor & Administration Center, the most advanced green building in New York City, and the varied scope of programs and events we presented. QBG enjoys serving the entire community of Queens, and we appreciate the way the Moon Festival celebrates the multicultural community that surrounds us.”

On September 13, the day of the actual festival, the festival’s multicultural performance and hot air balloon rides will take place at Queens Botanical Garden from 6 – 8 pm. Activities will take place at additional Flushing venues beginning at 3 pm, including a Fantasy Parade down Main Street from 5 - 6 pm.
