Queens Botanical Garden - Where people, plants, and cultures meet
September 2008 Construction Update

September 27th, 2008 marks the one year anniversary of the public opening of the Visitor & Administration Center and the commencement of construction on the new Parking Garden.  The Center has garnered acclaim from National, State and City chapters of the American Institute of Architects as well as coverage from industry publications such as GreenSource, Metropolis, Metropolitan Home and the Architects Newspaper.  In June, the Center earned Platinum LEED certification, making it the first public building in New York City to achieve this level of certification from the US Green Building Council.

The Garden has since collaborated with Columbia University to monitor the performance of its 3,000 sq ft green roof, as well as a sample black roof and white roof, through a network of weather instrumentation.  For live data from this system, visit the tab on the left or click here.
